Mid-Del Schools approach technology training through the train-the-trainer model. Individual sites have STEP (Sharing Technological Educational Practices) Educators. These teachers, in cooperation with the site principal, are responsible for the implementation of all instructional technology initiatives at the school site. The district has followed this model since 2003. It would be a benefit to review the program to insure that training needs are being met and to make any necessary adjustments.
The district now adopts the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards known as NETS (National Educational Technology Standards) for Teachers and Administrators. The latest version of NETS can be found on the ISTE web site at http://cnets.iste.org . The explicit goal of all opportunities will be to develop evidence of one of the six goals for inclusion in classroom instruction.

During the 2011-2012 school year, the District received a Department of Defense Education Agency grant. The grant was awarded to Tinker Elementary that serves the District's highest population of elementary military connected students. The grant will provide computers, student response systems, and a Technology Integration Specialist on site to facilitate the professional development teachers will need.
During the 2011-2012 school year, the District began videotaping teachers engaged in exemplary instructional practices. The videos are posted on the District's website. The videos are called MDPD-24/7 which means Mid-Del Professional Develoopment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The title implies that Mid-Del's best practices can be watched on demand at any time. These videos will be incorporated into Mid-Del's professional growth model in the new teacher evaluation system.

In addition to digital citizen accountability, the district is required to assess the proficiency of students' technology use. Beginning in FY 2011, all eighth grade students will be assessed with a performance based assessment to determine their proficiency with technology. Those results are reported to the state in the State Department of Education Computer Survey.

The district goal of continuous improvement can be obtained through the constant assessment of technology integration and maintenance of meaningful portfolios which reflect classroom use and technology practice.
All documentation will be handled through the Teacher Appraisal System (TAS). All principals will utilize a technology integration rubric to assess the level of technology integration for each teacher. The rubric allows Mid-Del Schools to be standardized in the goals and intent, but allows the principal to identify the specific examples of technology integration. The rubric is developed by Instructional Technology and supplied to principals during yearly training. Any necessary training after the beginning of the school year will be documented with the building STEP (Sharing Technological Educational Practices) Educator. Documentation of proficient use will be sent to the building principal.

Section 10: Parental Involvement
The Mid-Del Public School District uses technology to promote parental involvement and increase communication with parents through district websites, Podcasts, e-mail, and through the district’s student accounting system which links directly to a secure website allowing parents access to their child’s records. The promotion and use of this technology will help parents stay informed and involved in their children’s education. With increased parental involvement, Mid-Del plans to see growth in student achievement.

Access to teacher e-mails and classroom lessons are available at all sites through the use of the teacher workstation. For the 2009-2010 school year, plans to increase the information available on the web page will continue. With access at every site, all classroom teachers, counselors, and administrators will be encouraged to maintain web pages to keep parents involved in the day to day activities of their children and to keep parents informed of the support resources available to them. Along with up-to-date classroom web pages, Podcasts will be used to allow parents to view classroom activities. Direct communication between parents and school personnel will be timely through district and site e-mail access, the ALERTNOW system and the Cisco phone system that soon will be available for every site . The District has made available to parents, the ability to pay for school lunches online using the Meal Pay Plus Program. Question and answer surveys and suggestion pages on the web make parental and community involvement in school happenings easy and convenient.
With teacher workstations in all Mid-Del schools, the district’s student accounting system will be more extensively used in the coming school years. All attendance, discipline, and demographic information will be available to both district personnel and to parents via an internet website which allows parents confidential viewing of student progress and assessment results. The Mid-Del School District has adopted an electronic on-line grade book, which feeds directly to the student accounting system and the secure website.

In an effort to explore resources offered online by a variety of companies, a committee was formed in the fall of 2008 that consisted of Curriculum and Instruction personnel as well as site academic coaches and other administrators. The goal was to evaluate the resources based on the criteria above. The committee made a recommendation to the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction in the spring of 2009.

Since the fall of the 2007-2008 school year, students have had the opportunity to prepare for college entrance exams by checking out a laptop equipped with college entrance exam preparation software. High School College Counselors check out and monitor laptop use via the site library system. College Counselors received laptop training and technical issues are supported through SITE technicians.
During the 2008-2009 school year, student email accounts were added on a limited basis as a technology tool providing them with the opportunity to communicate globally with politicians, companies, and colleges. Also, students are able to communicate with teachers and peers regarding instruction, project collaboration, and peer tutoring.

Social networking websites such as Facebook, Twitter and Ning can be utilized to promote school events. These sites can encourage 24/7 access for professional communication and collaboration for educators, students, parents, and members of the community. During the 2011-2012 school year, the District implemented the School Connect mobile application. It is available for both Android and iPhone mobile operating systems. Each site has the capability to send notifications and alerts while District patrons subscribe to the school site they have interest in.
Achieve 3000 was implemented during the 2011-2012 school year for grades 3-5 and targeted middle schools for 6-8. Achieve 3000 is an online reading comprehension and writing program delivered at students' instructional level. The program was selected as it uses non-fiction text and will help with the transition to Common Core State Standards. Also during the 2011-2012 year, middle school and high school English Language Arts writing portfolios will be completed by utilizing Googledocs. Previously portfolios were printed and placed in large envelopes to be reviewed. By using Googledocs, students will make their writing available by "sharing" with their teachers and District staff which makes them instantly available. This will make the process of reviewing student samples much more efficient.

The district utilizes the telecommunication services (phone, Internet access, cellular) for service to as well as access for library media centers and classroom instruction. The detail of these services is reflected in the E-rate application. As a result of E-rate funding for the Internet access provider and leased cable lines for the WAN/LAN, more students have the ability to access the Internet for instructional purposes. Additionally, the district has funded more computers and printers for the classroom through local money and bond issues.
For the E-rate application, telecommunication service funding will be requested for phone service, cellular service, Internet access provider and Internet access through leased cable lines (WAN/LAN) for the network and Voice over IP (VoIP) telecommunication service.

Mid-Del Public School District assembles a team of experts from varied disciplines to evaluate and update the district's technology plan. The team meets as a group each year to review procedures, timelines, and individual responsibilities. An electronic collaborative method is used to continue the revue and update of the plan. A snapshot of this living document is captured annual and approved by the administration and board of education. It is during this process that goals and benchmarks identified in the previous year's plan are examined for progress. Data sources include the district computer survey required by the State Department of Education which is usually submitted late fall of each year.
